iPhone App: Check Your Servers With Net Status
If your like me and manage a multitude of servers, this app maybe one of the handiest things in the world. Net Status is a FREE service monitor that will check your servers and the services running on them to be sure they are all up and running. This handy app checks most popular services and does so quickly, the speed in which Net Status executes its check is consistent even if a service fails. You can add as many hosts as you would like; I have about a dozen setup on my phone. You can also configure it to check each host right when you load the app. If a host is completely down, it'll move to the top of the list and turn red, if only some services are down, it will turn yellow. You can touch any specific host for a wealth of information. The following video gives a quick look on how it works.
If you manage more than one server this free app is a must have. Highly recommended!

From the Net Status Homepage
"Using Net Status™ you can get a fast glimpse of what is happening now with your hosts, routers and other network devices connected to the Internet or LAN.Net Status™ checks network services your hosts run for availability and present the information in a convenient way aiming at providing a faster way to diagnose network problems. With Net Status™ you can quickly and easily determine which hosts and services are down from your monitoring list.Network probes are performed using asynchronous algorithms that allow Net Status™ to operate quite fast - a host with quite a lot of running services is checked within fractions of a second. Even problematic hosts don't slow down the check process for a time much longer than a timeout you specify."

Bad Translations
A friend of mine bought an ipod clone online. He got it from http://www.mp3playerbuying.com (which isn't loading for me now)..
The place was in china. The paypal account he paid to was a US account from a different company, the confirmation came from yet a different company and it was shipped from yet another company.
This thing is very cool for the cheap price tag, but it goes overboard trying to be a clone. In fact when you turn it on it has a slightly altered apple logo that pops up on the screen.
The the most awesome part was the instruction booklet. This has to be the funniest thing I've seen in quite some time. The translation is so incredibly funny I had to scan it and post it up.. So check it out

Bad TranslationsiPhone App: Logitech Touchmouse
I've been shopping around for a remote control for my PC for the past 3 or 4 months. During this search, I've been fairly unhappy with my findings. Everything I've looked at seems to be windows specific or incredibly overpriced for the features. When I first came across "TouchMouse", I have to admit I was incredibly skeptical about this app seeing as it is "free" and came from Logitech. But this app combined with my Boxee computer connected into my television blows me away. I now have the server portion of the setup installed on all of my machines. Basically this is a touch mouse pad on your iPhone which turns your iPhone or iPod into a remote mouse and keyboard. You can control any computer (Mac or PC) with this app. First, install the server on the target machine, then install the "touch mouse" app on your iPhone or iPod touch and you now have a wireless/remote control mouse -- and keyboard for that matter. The App makes everything extremely configurable and works like a charm. The app uses Wi-Fi to control your computer and unlike the boxee remote control App (which only works for Boxee); I didn't run into issues because my wireless network is on a different subnet than the rest of my wired network. Setup on 3 different machines took all of two minutes and I was good to go. There are a few alternatives such as "Air Mouse" which will cost you; this is the only free App of its kind. I highly recommend it. Certainly is a top pick for App of the week.
Here is the first demo I came across on Youtube, which seems to do a decent job of showing off the App.

iPhone App: Logitech TouchmouseE-Cigarettes
Last year I discovered E-Cigarettes. Being a smoker for almost 20 years, it seemed like a good idea, not to mention you could 'smoke' e-cigarettes in places where smoking was banned. I did a lot of research on these technological marvels and decided to get one.
Unfortunately, while I did research e-cigarettes in general, I didn't research specific brands, which was a mistake.
So I plopped down $160, and got my first e-cig. The taste wasn't so good, and the feel was that of a super-mega-ultra light 100 -- but still, the whole concept still had me excited.
A few months later it broke, by then I was over the initial excitement of the idea as I found myself smoking regular cigarettes most of the time anyway.
This past month I decided to revisit the idea, this time doing some significant research on brands, and hoping not to be disappointed. As I read various forums and reviews I saw a lot of negative feedback on the model I originally purchased and started feeling better that I was not alone with my dissatisfaction.
I eventually came across a company that people raved about, claiming they had the best e-cigarettes on the market for the price.
So I ordered. Since I got my E-Cigarette, I've smoked almost a pack of regular cigarettes in the past 3 weeks, whereas I was at a pack a day. As a smoker trying to quit this is the best thing since sliced bread.
Awhile back The FDA issued a report warning people that E-Cigarettes are not safe. They used a nicotine inhaler for comparison as opposed to regular cigarettes, the language of the report said things like "in one sample, diethylene glycol a chemical used in antifreeze that is toxic to humans — was detected" ... While they do admit to it only being trace amounts in a specific brand, they fail to mention that diethylene glycol is also used to dry tobacco for regular cigarettes and that the amounts in your average cigarette exceed that of an e-cig 10-fold.
They also found some brands contained nitrosamines, which sounds pretty threatening, even though nitrosamines are present in Beer, Fish, meat, cheese and products preserved with nitrite pickling salt, which isn't mentioned in the report.
That said -- it seems like the FDA is mostly concerned with the fact that there is no legal age minimum to purchase e-cigs and that some of the exotic flavors such as 'cotton candy' may be targeting minors.
It's also worth noting that e-cigarettes are not subject to tobacco tax which is a significant income for most states, which could pose a real threat to many state economies.
In my opinion, I think it's a great, safer alternative to traditional cigarettes. I've put together a short video explaining how e-cigs work and a demo of the kit I bought.
